Sucker Punch is Gonna Suck

So, as I previously wrote I’m going to see Sucker Punch this weekend. I avoided opening night because, well, the movie simply doesn’t warrant it. As the first of the reviews begin pouring in, my original assumptions that the film would be visually stunning while void of plot seem to be true. I’m still pretty excited though. At the very least I’ll get to look at pretty cinematography and big explosions for an hour and a half. I’ll be sure to post my thoughts tomorrow night.
Anyone out there scene it? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments sections.

A.I. Powered Satellites

image

What is more nifty than the space program we have in place? How about Satellites that act based on artificial intelligence? Apparently the University of Southampton in the UK is working on a new system that could allow satellites to do much more than just what their told. It seems that this system might allow the satellites to observe and react. Neat, huh?

Captain America Trailer

Here’s a look at the first Captain America trailer. I’ve got to say, I’m pretty psyched. I’ve never had a chance to get into the comics, but the movie is looking awesome so far. My girly side loves historical dramas, and my nerdy side loves action/comic book flicks. So far, I can’t wait to see it.
I’ll be heading out to the movies this weekend to watch Sucker Punch which will have another Captain America trailer in the previews. I’ll be sure to let everyone know how awesome or awful Sucker Punch is along with my thoughts on the next trailer.

Wonder Woman TV Show Looking Like All Kinds of Bad

So, this is my first official blog post. Woohoo!

First up on the docket is the new Wonder Woman television show starring Adrianne Palicki. Palicki was previously on Friday Night Lights (the TV show, not the movie) and although I was pretty excited about the project to begin with, recent pictures are starting to scare the heck out of me.

image Palicki looks more like a hooker than a super hero. This isn’t Palicki’s fault. It is the wardrobe designer’s strange sense of super hero apparel that is making Palicki look like a night walker. Given that this costume actually covers more skin than previous Wonder Woman costumes I was surprised at how skanky it feels. I’m not the only one that had this reaction to the skin tight and super shiny outfit. From what I’ve been reading on the interwebs, many others share my disdain for the cheap latex look.

As a friend pointed out, however, the photo that has been released looks really weird. Photoshop of horrors perhaps? At this point I’m hoping that this is just a Frankenstein of a picture, because aside from the costume and harlot makeup they put Palicki in, her face shape looks a bit strange too. That would sadly make me feel better about the show. Right now, this photo is all I have to go on, and I’m a bit disappointed.

I must admit, as a lady nerd Wonder Woman holds a very special place in my heart. The many strange turns that the character has taken over the years are sometimes annoying. The most recent reinvention of the comic is irksome, and although I have all of the most recent issues, I stopped reading after 604. Princess Diana seems more like a moody teenager than the hero she is. And before you say anything, I get that DC is trying to tell a new story about this awesome (and underappreciated) character and how she comes to terms with learning her true heritage and destiny. That being said, the execution reads more like a teen melodrama, and it is annoying as all hell.

My final thoughts: I just hope that the TV show can deliver what the most recent comic rebirth hasn’t. I want to see a real character—someone that is fully developed and not just another look at the same stereotype of a certain kind of woman.
